1. Gardo De Jeanne 1 was born in 1500 in Normandel, Orne, Basse-Normandie, France2 and died in 1583 in England3 at age 83. Another name for Gardo was Guido.

General Notes: Gardo or Guido de Jeanne was a French general in the service of the Fr ench Confederation.
He was assigned to escort Henry the second to England and to secure He nry on the throne.
For this service Guido de Jeanne was knighted by Henry and given the m anor of Kirkling in Cambridge shire.
Guido's grandson, Geoffrey de Jeanne, took up arms with Baldwin the co unt of Flanders, in a successful effort to obtain Jerusalem and contri buted to install Baldwin king of Jerusalem.
Geoffrey later made three pilgrimages to the Holy Land with his son Gu y, or Guido.
Hence the scallop shells in the coat of arms, which commemorate thos e events.
Before his death Geoffrey acquired the lands of Botallack in west Corn wall, England through his wife the heiress of Sir Richard Penruddock.
A descendant was Henry de Jeanne, alleged by some genealogists to b e a graduate of Oxford University and a lecturer there on Theology an d Divinity.

However, researcher Milton Bush on a Genealogy.com message board refut es this, and I quote

"Henry de Jeanne did not attend Oxford. I wrote to the Oxford Librar y on that and reviewed the whole Oxford alumni series (about 20 volume s).
He did not matriculate there under any of the possible name spelling s and did not lecture there. Neither did an ancestor, nor child.
Dear Beniah Gustin Jayne just made it up about 120 years ago. He ma y have intended it as a joke, or as a test who would rely on secondar y materials."

According to notes in the Genealogy Section of the Suffolk County Hist orical Society in Riverhead, New York, the father of Henry Jayne was R odger Jayne.

William (De Jeanne) Jayne, (Henry') born 25 January 1618, in Bristol , Gloucestershire, England and died 24 March 1714 in Setauket, Suffol k County on Long Island New York and is buried in the Setauket Presbyt erian Church Cemetery.

According to some genealogists, William arrived in America with the Jo hn Davenport Colony.

He lived near Boston, MA for 8 months & then settled in New Haven, Con neticutt
He came to Brookhaven by 1675.

He was a cooper making casks and barrels.

William married his fourth wife, Mehitable Jenkins, in 1694 in New Yor k.
She was born in 1658 and died 21 May 1727.
According to the "Records of the Town of Brookhaven" Book C (1687-1789 ) William was a trustee of the town of Brookhaven in 1701.

Since this individual was born hundreds of years after 1154, he most p robably did not escort Henry II or anyone else, for that matter, to En gland in 1154.
